Please note this article contains affiliate links. | One of my favourite things to do when I'm not crocheting is to look at crochet patterns. Seriously, I could (and do!) spend hours scouring Pinterest, checking out magazines, browsing other bloggers websites, you name is I do it. Except yard sales, I don't do those. It's a sickness, I'll admit it. So when I'm directed to a new magazine that has come out I love to take a look at it. In fact, last Christmas I didn't even bother looking at I Like Crochet! I just hopped on the band wagon and I'm so glad that I did! I love a great online magazine where you don't have to print everything and you can focus on what you really want to read or make. That's one of the problems with buying books or printed magazines, you get everything, including things that don't really apply to you or you don't like. Let's face it, what I think is absolutely gorgeous you may think belongs in a museum or worse, a garbage can. I'm going to break it down into a couple of different categories - articles & patterns. |
Articles
I Like Crochet! has some great articles or "Features" for you to choose from. One of my favourite sections is the "Too Cool for (Stitch) School". I have learned some great techniques from this section and I've been able to update my know how. I'm self taught from Youtube (shout out to Mikey of The Crochet Crowd!) so sometimes the way I do things, isn't the way everyone else does. I've actually created some very interesting versions of what I thought was a puff stitch!
Through my subscription I have learned about how to care for myself and my yarn. In this issue there is an article on how you can do special stretches. Carpel tunnel anyone? That's me for sure. I crochet so much that I've noticed some numbness and tingling in my right hand. I Like Crochet! has some simple ideas to help you with your crocheting needs. Honestly, I never thought I'd get hurt from crafting, yet, here we are.
P.S. I also like that when you're at the table of contents and click on something you like, it opens a new window. So much better!
Patterns
This month features a whole lot of beautiful shawls. T'is the season for warm wraps, or at least it will be soon. Not to mention, I have a prayer shawl ministry (Wrapped in Prayer) that could really benefit from some beautiful new patterns.
I love that this magazine is so chock full of patterns. There's everything from the aforementioned shawls to great fall accessories, kids and baby stuff too. The patterns are easy to read and you can print which ones you like. I don't know if you've noticed, but I really like that feature. Plus they're cute, new and hip. Although crochet is an art of before my time, it doesn't have to look like that!
I'm a busy lady, I love that I don't have to flip through pages to find something. Now if I could just find a way to keep my patterns together and away from my children's fingers and crayons, I would be set. At least I know where to go to get another one.
Generally I feel that this is a great magazine. Here's why:
In a nutshell, I think that if you love to crochet but the cost of a printed magazine scares you, this one is you.

- I love the articles. Sometimes they don't apply to me but it's okay because I don't have to read them.
- The patterns are fresh, new and easy to understand.
- I love how simple it is to navigate the table of contents and that a new window pops up so I don't have to keep going back and refreshing my page.
- It's not in a pdf format so I don't have to scroll anywhere I just click the link and print the page if I want to.
- I get monthly reminders that the new issue is out.
